My Malay colleague's wedding.

When I returned from my study leave, I was told that my Malay colleague, Khomi is getting married on 1st July. In a way, I was quite shocked and at the same time, felt happy for him. I was quite looking forward to attend a Malay wedding ceremony because the last time I attended one was donkey years ago which I can't even remember when.

We gathered at office and left around 1140am and reached Rawang around 1230pm. This Bukit Sentosa, Tangjung actually consists of small little bungalows and are bigger than those outside. They have a guardhouse also at the entrance. When we reached the guardhouse, I took the invitation card and press it against the window to show the guard. The guard was talking very grumpily showing all kind of gestures but we ignored him as because we thought he was very emotionally welcoming us. Hahaha...he actually meant something like we should park outside and walk in because parking spaces are quite limited inside. LOL

Unlike the Chinese wedding ceremonies which are held in hotels or restaurants, Malay wedding ceremonies are held in their house with lunch served at the same time.

All my colleagues commented that the decoration was very nice and quite glamorous.

There were around 20 tables with 10 tables on each row. Maybe less than that. Forgot to count. As for each table, the food are being kept served already. Just need to open up the cover and start eating.

This is called the kerabu, a famous Kelantan dish according to my colleague, Nizam. The vege actually tasted very raw and eat them with the belacan. Woohoo...syok!!

Next up, fried fish. I think by looking at it, I am sure you know how it tastes.

This daging kari (beef) , is my favourite. Very delicious and the meat was very tender.

The belacan that I mentioned just now.

Khomi's mother came to us and told us that this curry chicken is no ordinary chicken. This is actually ayam hutan, bukan ayam bandar. Direct translation will be, this is forest chicken, not city chicken. Hahaha...

No Pepsi Cola but syrup biasa.

Brought to you by....

After lunch, Khomi and his wife, Julia have yet to reach so we decided to walk around and snap some pictures.
This long table will be where, Khomi, Julia and family members have their lunch.

According to reliable information, Khomi built this himself.
Well done man!!

Their "in house DJ".

After waiting for around 20 minutes, finally Khomi and his bride arrived. From far, we can hear the sound of kompangs.

These girls are carrying presents which are given by the bride to the bridgegroom.

The boys and girls played the kompang by just hitting it with their bare hands.

When they reached the house, both of them straight away proceed to the special "booth" that Khomi made. Usually, Malays have it in their house but our friend here built it outside the house. After a short prayer session...

They start playing the kompangs again to kickoff the Upacara merenjis.

Close family members will come up to them one by one and take some daun pandan which are sliced into very small pieces and placed the daun pandan onto each their hand.

Then they will take air wangi and pour onto their hand. At first, I thought it was holy water.

The other family members just slowly walk their way up to the couple but this man actually performed a Malay martial art called the silat.

As they leave, they were each given a bunga telur as a sign of appreciation.

After the upacara merenjis, I went into the house and took a look at the presents given by the bride. On the previous day, Khomi did the same thing as well. He also brought presents to the bride's house. The presents here are cakes, perfumes, basket of fruits, shoes and leather belt.

Among the presents, this one caught everybody's eyes. A house of Chocolate bars.

Another bunga telur.

Before Khomi and Julia have their lunch...we managed to

take a picture with him and his beloved wife.

Congratulations and Selamat Pengantin Baru from all of us.
This blog is dedicated to Julia and you.
