SAC's Back to Basic Camp 2007

During year 2005, I was the Sunway ACCA Club president and the only thing which I regretted was unable to organise a camp for the club due to financial backings and time constraint at that period of time. But this year, Sze Mun who took over the president post from Grace Chng last year organised the camp with a little help from me.

Venue : Commonwealth Park, Rawang.

Date : 31st August to 2nd September.

Theme: Back to Basics

Due to my busy working days, I couldn't join in during their meeting and was only able to offer minimal advise and help. I suggested and brought them to the camp site and the committee members fell in love with the place and quickly start planning for the camp. This "tiring and energy-consuming" camp is organised in such a way where participants are going to stay in tents, start the fire using the woods and cook their meals etc.

Traditional way

For this dinner, they are given eggs, rice, canned food like curry chickens and baked beans

It's really wonderful to see participants co-operating with each other, trying to cook something out because if they screw up, they will have nothing for dinner. But of course, we have backup plans like Maggi Mee for them.

Day 2 started off with some participants injuring themselves during the games.

One of them had to be sent to the nearby clinic as we suspected that he dislocated his elbow. Sze Mun and I took him took him to the clinic and luckily he is fine after the doctor used the x-ray scan on his elbow. He landed on the ground with his elbow straight and I guessed his nerves suffered great impact.

During lunch time, Jun Seong, Kim Li, Sze Mei, Hui Leng and I were busy looking after the kitchen because for the fear of monkeys terrorising our valuables (food). They love garbages as well.

Before lunch, the participants hiked up the hill and spent the rest of their day there. They are required to go through a few stations where each stations require them to complete a tast before moving on.

The briefing

Station 1 requires participants to jump into the water and look for the keys to open up the box. In the box contains a clue for the next station.

Station 2 requires one participant to be blindfolded and based on the instructions and guidings from their teammates, the "blind" person must walk within the "marked area". The "blind" person must not step on the green strings on the ground and kick the boxes until he reached the other end of the area.

Station 3 requires the team to carry one of their teammates and go through the "holes".

Osama was very "furious" when this team was delaying his time

Station 4 requires each participant to eat biscuits with mustard, chilli sauce, mayonnaise and eggs. Easy job la~~.

Station 5 requires participants to look for these insects in the grass, under the trees and branches. This game really test the participant's patience and eye sight.

Other stations are obstacle courses which are guided by professionals which I did not join in. After this session, all participants were split into 2 teams and they are required to build a raft using only ropes, bamboo sticks and tires. I did not take any pictures because I need to help out the Kitchen Department to set up the fire for the BBQ session at night.

When the fire and BBQ are were all set up, the weather changed and rained heavily. Everyone was soaking wet and we had to cancel the BBQ session. In the end, participants were the kings and queens that night as the committee members worked their ass off to fry, steam and boil whatever they can to feed the hungry participants.

The kitchen is dark, Tsen Li had to used the torch light so that Pui Gin can estimate if the chicken wings are ready. My camera's flash is bright leh.

Osama BBQ-ing his fishies

Wonderful teamwork!

I am proud of these guys. Everyone was soaking wet and exhausted and yet they managed to cook delicious meals for the participants.

That's all for it as I left the camp that night because I need to have a proper rest and do some work before my next assignment in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Monday morning.

I will update my blog about Chiang Mai's trip whenever I am free. Goodbye everybody.
